Fun Stuff: The Galápagos islands are the world's second largest marine reserve. The Galápagos Islands were made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. The Pinta island subspecies of Galápagos Giant Tortoise (Geochelone elephantopus abingdoni) are survived by a single male named "Lonesome George". Cut off from human influences for millions of years, the animals of the Galápagos Islands have not developed a fear of man and tend to approach humans quizzically rather than running away.
