Africa Hotels Night 1 & 2 Arumeru River Lodge Your African travel adventure starts at the Arumeru River Lodge, located at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, where views of the mighty mountain are as close as your windows! Built on an old coffee farm right next to a river, with Arusha and Kilimanjaro National Parks as nearby neighbors, your lodge features chalet-style accommodations with private verandahs that open out to lush tropical gardens. International and African cuisine are available in two on-site restaurants, including an outdoor terrace restaurant and snack service at the swimming pool. Not a bad way to begin your exciting African safari! Night 3 & 4: Kikoti Safari Camp Tented camps are a way of life during African safaris, and Kikoti is one of the most luxurious. In Maasai, "kikoti" means "the place where life began" – a place where you will see both the Maasai people and the second largest concentration of big game in the world. You'll be staying a large cottage-style tent for two nights, relying on solar-generated electricity when the sun goes down. Each private safari tent is perched on a raised platform of wooden timbers, and has sewn-in floors and en-suite bathroom facilities. Besides being spacious and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, you'll have your very own private wooden deck that's picture-perfect for wildlife viewing in the valley below. During your stay, you'll meet local Maasai villagers who will teach you a lot about life in Africa, including how to make beaded jewelry and elephant-dung paper. You'll also go out on morning and afternoon game drives for up-close encounters with the wild animals who live next door in Tarangire National Park. Night 5 & 6: Ngorongoro Farm House Turn back time for two nights as you stay at an old colonial farm right next to Africa's "Garden of Eden" and located on the slopes of Oldeani Volcano. In addition to enjoying great views of the property's 500 acres of gardens and pastures, you'll be treated to home-made meals from organic food raised right here all year round. Your traditional accommodations are spread out in three separate camps with 9 comfortable bungalows. A large thatched-roof lodge houses the reception area, bar, dining facilities, library and lounge; outdoors there's a swimming pool that's a great way to cool off after a day of exploring! Night 7 & 8: Tauck's Private Luxury Mobile
Tented Camp There's nothing more exciting than a private safari camp that actually moves with the animals. That's just what you'll do for two nights as Tauck takes you deep into the African bush for some of the best wildlife viewing you could ever imagine. You'll stay in spacious canvas tents that have two twin beds dressed with luxury linens and en suite bathroom facilities that include a shower; like the safari camps you may have seen in movies, they are lit by softly glowing lanterns rather than by electric lights. At night you'll dine under a sparkling canopy of stars on meals prepared by chefs who travel with the camp. When day breaks, you'll enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast before heading out for a game drive. Returning back to camp, you might find it in a new location because the entire camp can – and does – move to follow the animals! Night 9 & 10: Mbalageti, Serengeti You might think we've saved the best for last when you arrive at Mbalageti, in the western Serengeti. You'll spend your final two nights on safari in luxurious canvas chalet-type tents, made out of local wood and rock. Each tent has its own private thatched-roof veranda, one of the best places we've found to watch the exciting migration of the region's wildebeests, zebras, topis and more. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining room where great views of the Serengeti continue to whet your appetite for daily discoveries of Africa's circle of life. While you're here, you'll be able to dine on continental favorites as well as sample some regionally inspired food that promises to feed both your stomach and your imagination. Life in Africa depends on strategically placed watering holes and the lodge follows suit with a swimming pool that is made out of local rock and is situated atop a hill overlooking the plains; grown-ups will find the bar to be a refreshing watering hole after the daily game drives that young and old agree make Mbalageti a great place to end your unforgettable safari adventure. |
